Today’s book review is for Sora’s Quest, the first book in the Cat’s Eye Series, written by T.L. Shreffler. I started reading this book one night after a lot of travel, and I thought I’d do a little reading before bed. Big mistake! I did a book binge and stayed up all night.
I highly enjoyed this read, as it started out at a fast pace and stayed that way throughout the entire book. It’s truly an epic adventure filled with magic and mysteries. The author did a great job at not giving away too much, and it keeps you wanting to know more.
I loved the different personalities of the characters. The main character is a teenage girl named Sora, and she gets caught up in the lives of an assassin, thief, and mercenary. The author did a great job of creating a world with a variety of magical beings.
As for my clean rating for a young adult read, there is mild cursing, quite a bit of violence, but no sexual content. (There was a dance she had to perform in the beginning of the book that some might consider provocative, but I didn’t think it too much.) It’s a PG-13 read. The romance is being set up in this book, so I don’t know yet how far it will go. I do plan to read the rest of the series and will give reviews soon. As for the violence, it reads like an epic fantasy. There’s death, sword fights, creatures, and guards.
I give this book five stars and recommend it to both teenagers and adults. I plan to read the rest of the series soon. I also plan to check out this author’s other books, as I highly enjoyed her writing. Stay tuned for more reviews of the rest of the series, and I believe Sora’s Quest is set as perma-free since it’s the first book in the series.
